Attraction is the first part of the three part new adult contemporary romance Elements of Chemistry by Penny Reid.

Every time I decide to give up on the contemporary romance genre, there are authors like Penny Reid who make me keep coming back for more. She is one author who is a sure bet when it comes to mixing the right amount of humour, wit and nerdiness to a contemporary romance, who creates something awesome every time.Everyone who is familiar with her adult romance series Knitting in the City, would know what I am talking about. And Elements of Chemistry, her first foray into the new adult genre is no exception.

I have been waiting for this one ever since I read the short story  Bunsen Burner Bingo last year and heard about it being developed into a full length story. What seems like a typical college romance or a typical contemporary romance plot at first glance,is in fact a refreshing addition to the genre which comes to life with Reid’s characteristic mastery for weaving humour and wit into the story line, and her knack of creating insanely nerdy and smart heroines.

Kaitlyn Parker maybe naive and a virgin, but she is far from being helpless and has the common sense for self preservation, even when the boy she’d been lusting after, tries hard to seduce her.She is quite a character and there is never a dull moment when one gets to be in her head all throughout the book.

Martin Sandeke is the epitome of alpha male with an attractive body,a female fan following, who is captain of the varsity rowing team and is filthy rich.Though he is a dashing male whose chemistry and pairing with Kaitlyn beyond the chemistry lab is very believable, the jury is still out as to his general likeability in my opinion. There is a hint to a deeper story beyond his he-man  persona though. This being a short novella does not dwell on it longer, but there is  certainly the promise of an even more emotion packed development in the future parts of  Elements of Chemistry.

This is an addictive,fast-paced piece which can be finished within an hour or two.If you are looking for a fine romance with a good dose of hotness, humour and nerd speak, you wouldn’t be disappointed.A note of warning though, this ends on a frustrating cliff hanger.Read it at your own risk if you don’t have a copy of the second part right by your side.

Elements of Chemistry: ATTRACTION is the first part in a three part series; it is 45k words; and it ends Attraction-Elements of Chemistry reviewwith a cliffhanger.
Part 1 (ATTRACTION) will be released April 9, 2015
Part 2 (HEAT) will be released April 30, 2015.
Part 3 (CAPTURE) will be released May 16, 2015.

One week.
Private beach.
Invisible girl.
Jerk-faced bully.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.

Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family’s billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.

When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?

About the Author: Geetanjali-Musings of a Bibliophile

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

To protect Amber’s reputation, Marcus has only one option: end their relationship. He won’t risk further damage to her case, even if it means breaking her heart.

Amber has to find the strength to step into the spotlight and bring awareness to victims’ rights before she’s convicted in the court of public opinion. Rating: 5/5

This is a brilliant conclusion to Amber and Marcus’ story.Lindenblatt made a slam dunk with Let Me Know. This story is a lot heavier than the first one.

This is also so much more than an NA romance. It touches a lot of issues which are sensitive but are very important topics that everyone needs to be aware of.The social message that the story puts out is what I would like to emphasize on. Continue reading

Tell Me When(Lost In You #1) by Stina Lindenblatt

Title: Tell Me When

Series :  Lost In You

Author: Stina Lindenblatt

Publication date: January 20th,2014

Genre: New Adult/Contemporary Romance

Synopsis: Amber Scott should be enjoying life as a college freshman. She should be pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. She should be working hard to make sense of her precalculus math class.

She shouldn’t be waking up her college roommate with screaming nightmares. She shouldn’t be flashing back, reliving the three weeks of hell she barely survived last year. And she definitely shouldn’t be spending time with sexy player Marcus Reid.

But engineering student Marcus is the only one keeping Amber from failing her math course, so she grudgingly lets him into her life. She never expects the king of hookups will share his painful past. Or that she’ll tell him her secrets in return, opening up and trusting him in a way she thought she’d never be able to again.

When their fragile future together is threatened by a stalker Amber thought was locked away for good, Marcus is determined to protect her. And Amber is determined to protect Marcus…even if that means pushing him away.

Rating: 3.5/5

This book was a total googly.I did not expect much going into the story as the blurb sounds like any other YA/NA romance read and the book cover is less than appealing.Damaged girl meets troubled boy and they fall in love.Nothing earth shattering or worth remembering other than for quick entertainment, right? Wrong. That’ll teach me not to judge a book by its cover. 😉 Continue reading

Collide Into You(A Romantic Body Swap Story) by Kelly Washington

Collide into you

Title: Collide into You(A romantic body swap story)

Author: Kelly Washington

Publication Date: October 28th,2014

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance/Gender Bender

Love, by its very definition, is disorder…

When twenty-seven-year-old Army Sergeant Keira Holtslander, an orderly and rule-loving intelligence analyst, is reassigned to the Pentagon for a special assignment, she agrees to room with her brother’s best friend, Dillan Pope. But there’s a problem. Several, in fact. He’s sarcastic, egotistical, full of himself, extremely attractive, and a womanizer. Within a matter of days, her life is chaos. She didn’t like him when they met nine years ago, and her opinion isn’t likely to change now.

Love… crashes around you…

Dillan Pope, a thirty-year-old career businessman climbing his way up the corporate ladder, has learned to use his looks, charm, and sexual skills to his advantage. There isn’t much he cannot accomplish. Women easily tumble into his bed and business deals come about effortlessly. But when his best friend’s little sister moves in, he knows he’s in trouble. She’s rather hostile toward him, which takes him by surprise. Not even his patented smile works on her, but maybe that’s why Keira, aka Sergeant Prim and Proper, has always been the one girl he hasn’t been able to forget since their first meeting, nine years ago.

Love… blinds you…

When a meddling barista puts a charm on the roommates, causing them to swap bodies, they must live as the other until they both own up to some hard truths. They quickly learn that panic, fighting, and accusations will get them nowhere. Until they can learn the lessons they refuse to acknowledge, they experience life as the other. Along the way they are forced to concede that maybe the other isn’t so bad.

Love… heals you…

Maybe there’s a reason they hated each other. And admitting the feelings that lay hidden may be the only way to undo the switch.

Rating: 4/5

Collide Into You as the subtitle suggests is a romantic body swap love story between Keira Holtslander and Dillan Pope, which means that their bodies get interchanged, that physically Keira becomes Dillan and vice versa.I have watched this phenomenon occur in a few movies but had never read it in a book.So I was very curious to see how this pans out.

Sergeant Keira Holtslander or ‘Sergeant Prim and Proper’ as Dillan likes to call is an army intelligence analyst Continue reading
